Events
in Alicante

The Hogueras de San Juan Festival is the biggest festival for the city, and has been accredited as being of International Tourist Interest. The festival originates from the tradition of burning old junk for the arrival of the summer solstice. More than 200 paper mache effigies are constructed and placed around the city.
These effigies are then burnt in bonfires on the night of the 24th of June in a spectacular event known as the ''Cremà'', and the fire is then put out by the fire brigade during the ''Banyà''. Different events are held throughout the festivial period including firework displays and parades, the most important being the flower offering parade to honor the city´s Patron, la Virgen del Remedio.
Make sure you don't miss out by booking a Spanish course in Alicante this summer!

The Moors and Christians festival is the main festival in Alicante, and it is held in five areas of the city on different dates. The festival consists of a spectacular reconstruction of the reconquests of Arabic territories. Another important part of the festival is the parade that is organised in the centre of the city every year on the 6th December to honour the patron San Nicolás. In Villafranqueza the festival is celebrated in March to honour San José; to San Blas it is celebrated in July and to Altozano it is celebrated in August. Whenever you choose to do a Spanish course in Alicante, you surely won't miss out!

Accoring to the legend San Nicolás left Alicante with gifts for children in the Netherlands; so each year, on the 6th of December, the Patron passes through the old town on a white horse and gives out presents to the children. The children follow him throughout the city blowing whistles, accompanied by important figures of the festival, including the Bellea del Foc (the queen of festivals in Alicante) with her maids of honour, as well as other members of the Festival of San Juan, Easter Festivals, and the Moors and Christians festival.
On the evening of the 6th of December, another parade is held in honour of the Moors and Christians festival, which includes colourful 'filaes' and the Moors and Christians from all over the city, wearing eye-catching costumes and playing festive music.
You'll definitely get into the Christmas spirit while you learn Spanish in Alicante!
