Events
in Salamanca

One of the most important characters of the city. On the day of the celebration, the Mariquelo dresses up in a charro outfit and climbs up to the New Cathedral to play a charrada with a pipe and a drum. This act is to commemorate a historic event that happened in 1755.

Declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest, it has 16 Confraternities that organise 22 processions, some of which date back to the beginning of the 1500s.

Once the festivities have started, for the entire week there will be plenty of street performances, concerts, traditional pinchos, a medieval market, bullfighting fair and many other events.

Thousands of University students gather at the Plaza Mayor at 12 midnight in order to celebrate the official New Year´s Eve and the Festival of the end of the year.
